The German national football team reached the top of the world and tasted glory during the 2014 World Cup. Joachim Low’s squad was rightfully claimed as the best team in the globe on July 12 of 2014 as they defeated Argentina at Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.
It seemed like there was nothing stopping Germany from riding their wave of success and begin to dominate the world of football as the future of the German squad appeared to be as bright as ever but the squad that lifted the most prestigious and coveted silverware during the summer of 2014 has now been displaying flashes of weakness.
Germany finished the year of 2014 with highs and lows as they defeated Gibraltar with a convincing scoreboard of 4-0 however, a month prior to this and Germany had suffered a shocking defeat when facing off with Poland as well as having to settle with a 1-1 draw with Republic of Ireland, all of these matches were part of Germany’s 2016 Euro’s group stages.
These setbacks and recent underwhelming results have positioned Germany in the 2nd spot of Group D as they have secured 7 points which is the same amount of points as Scotland and Republic of Ireland. Only the teams located in the 1st and 2nd spot of their respective groups will be able to progress into the next rounds of the competition and this group is especially competitive with almost any team having a genuine chance on progressing.
Even with the amount of points that the German squad has dropped, Joachim Low is optimistic that his team will not only be able to win the upcoming 2016 Euro’s but the tactician is hopeful on winning the 2018 World Cup title.
“I hope that we are able to confirm our World Cup success. That we can characterize an era in which we not only won the World Cup title, but we can recapture the feeling of success. And that in 2016 we can win the European Championship final in Paris and then focus on defending our title at the 2018 World Cup.” Germany’s Joachim Low told reporters.
Germany’s first match of 2015 is scheduled to take place on March 25 as they face off with Australia and Joachim Low will want to kick off this year on a positive note by claiming a victory.
